Scaling up a B2B start-up worldwide sounds nice, however how do you try this? To discover out, I interviewed DK Lee, co-founder of Marqvision, a promising American start-up with workplaces in Korea and European presence in Paris, France. I spent a while with DK to know his background. Here is a written account of this fascinating dialogue with a seasoned multicultural entrepreneur.
Marqvision’s DK Lee Shares His Secrets To Scaling A B2B Startup Globally In Just Two Years
How It Began
DK Lee was born and raised in Seoul till he was 14 years outdated. He then moved to Canada primarily to check English, then spent his center and highschool years in Canada, close to Toronto.
He then crossed the border and moved to Cornell to check administration.
The Creation Of A B2B Start-up
Immediately after school DK (aka Do Kyung), joined EY the place he was “lucky enough to work with major companies in Seoul like Samsung and LG and help them behind the scenes with digital transformation,” he instructed us.
It was then that he realized that “digital transformation was actually happening within big companies, not just in Korea but all over the world”. He then joined a start-up, Seoul-based Dailyhotel, as chief of employees and funding supervisor.
In 2019 the corporate was offered to a bigger firm, Yanolia, valued at $60 million. Yanolja is the quickest rising and No. 1 journey platform and the one ‘Unicorn’ amongst journey associated corporations in South Korea, in response to their LinkedIn web page.
“That was my first exit experience,” DK instructed us. “Although I wasn’t a founder, I was one of the older members of the company.”
He then based Marqvision in 2020. He first met his co-founder in 2019. “We gradually built our idea, worked on the prototype and launched our project in the first quarter of 2020.”
Why Begin An Organization Within The US?
“The US provides a better foundation for entrepreneurs to scale their businesses globally,” DK Lee instructed Visionary Marketing. However, that’s solely one of many causes.
“I think this is still where you’ll find the best talent in the technology industry, whether it’s engineers, product managers, and sales and marketing people,” he added.
Recruitment is important to scale up my start-up.
However, Marqvision isn’t based mostly in Silicon Valley, however 400 miles south of San Jose, in Los Angeles. The cause for that is that leisure and luxurious items corporations are positioned close to the City of Angels, not San Francisco or the Valley.
If You May’t Beat Them, Be A Part Of Us!
Despite the reviews we’re getting in Europe that Silicon Valley goes by way of a hunch and the financial local weather is rotten, it looks like no different place on earth can match California.
A transparent signal of that is that each one different competing know-how areas are renaming themselves XXX Silicon Something. Replace XXX with Berlin, Tel Aviv and “Something” with Roundabout for London or Sentier for Paris and you have it.
The overwhelming majority of technological improvements nonetheless come from the United States, particularly from Silicon Valley
Fast And Good Begin
Marqvision bought off to a great begin and it occurred in simply two years. I’m nonetheless amazed on the velocity at which such corporations develop. In this case, it is no surprise. The start-up discovered the answer to a serious enterprise downside (See our story right here)
DK thinks he was “lucky in a lot of ways”. Have met an important co-founder and all of the individuals who have labored with Marqvision.
Yet constructing and scaling a worldwide start-up so rapidly can hardly be the results of luck alone. I requested DK how he had accomplished sharing his ideas with our readers.
“To really scale your startup globally, especially if you’re in the B2B space, you need to meet your customers face-to-face
“That’s the only way to get lively and real feedback about your product, about your solution, about your service,” he said.
That’s a clear warning to all these would-be entrepreneurs I’ve seen who are afraid to share their thoughts with you in the early stages of building their business.
“And that’s the only way to continually take your product to the next level,” he added. To do that, your team needs to be by your side to meet your client.
And the result is astonishing. In just two years, Marqvision was able to operate in five different offices around the world.
Winning A Prestigious LVMH Award
Marqvision’s success did not go unnoticed. LVMH awarded the American start-up the prize for innovation in the data and AI category, while “more than 1,000 companies had applied for this prestigious award”.

Participate Within The LVMH Acceleration Program
“After the prize, we joined La maison des start-ups,” DK Lee added, “a start-up acceleration program offered by the LVMH group.”
That is why Marqvision can be positioned in Station F in Paris. “We have our Paris office there until next year,” he instructed us.
Multicultural Management In A B2B Start-up
“I love working with the French,” DK instructed us, “I love the breadth and depth of their experience and what they’ve brought to the company in terms of the luxury industry.”
Granted, there are some language points he confided, however “we have a great product manager who acts as an ombudsman between the locals and the rest of the team in Seoul and the US”.
The sheer distance and time distinction between all three continents are additionally an issue he admitted. “Remote working is an inevitable trend,” he added, “but we shouldn’t deny all the benefits that come from working together in a beautiful office.”
Hence the group of all arms conferences to make sure that everyone seems to be on the identical web page.
Working From Dwelling Or On The Workplace?
I do know some folks might discover it ironic that huge corporations are shifting ahead with WFH insurance policies and startups are pushing again on that very same situation. However, it’s fully comprehensible.
Large corporations are extra suited to working remotely, I strongly consider working aspect by aspect is a a lot better approach for smaller begin ups to construct a stronger basis early on
There is little question that collaboration instruments have introduced rather a lot to fashionable administration methods and we, at Visionary Marketing, use them every day.
However, DK has a great level when he says “all those tools are just a means to an end, and the end is actually gathering people. We can do that in person at a physical location, or we can do that through a gym or an audio conference. But I think you should know that it is actually important that all people come together.”
Marqvision even invited all its leaders from the US (east and west coast) and Paris to their workplace in Seoul a month in the past. “So that they could get to know our engineers, analysts and back office employees. We had a great time, for about a week. We had nice dinners and that was a great way to boost our morale.”
Scaling a start-up isn’t just about exhausting work. It’s additionally about preserving the outdated staff spirit alive throughout all time zones.
